October Stitch Away

Last month I attended the semi-annual Stitch Away event hosed by The Stitch Niche here in Arlington. We stayed at a hotel in Weatherford and stitched all weekend long! Weatherford is just far enough to say it's out of town. I had the best time and made some terrific new stitching friends. Here's the room where we stitched and ate and stitched and ate and stitched some more!

Some people stitched small items for an exchange. I completely forgot about it until I got there but had stuff with me to stitch up this little scissors fob to put into the exchange. I wish I had taken a picture of the back because the backing fabric really makes it. I used a piece of French General fabric I got in a Moda "layer cake" at a quilting shop.

I received this fabulous pin cushion that the stitcher customized for the event! It's filled with crushed walnut shells.

One stitcher brought us little patchwork pieces that were stitched for pincushions. They were all different. The only catch is that we had to stuff them, sew them shut, and sew on the button ourselves! Okay, it was actually really fun - here's mine:

Kathy (the owner of The Stitch Niche) let me bring some of my Beaded Frogger kits. I held a little mini-class in the hotel's breakfast area. Besides the fact that it was hot and the lighting wasn't so great, everyone seemed to have a good time and enjoyed making the frogger.

Lynette made 2 froggers during the evening!

BTW, here's my new favorite stitching accessory!

The ladies at my table called "Cheers" whenever any of us made a mistake! I expected the mistakes to get more frequent as the evening progressed, but we were sensible :) I'll definitly go back again in April! Thanks, Kathy, for a great weekend.

What a buzz! Whenever I've heard about a stitching retreat here, something has come up which prevented me going. What a nice idea for everyone to make a little exchange gift. Yours is lovely, as is the one you received.

Now that sounds like a great time to be had!! I sure do miss having stitch-ins and needlework festivals to attend in my area. You are very lucky to have them close by. Glad you had such fun and made some new friends. And I love the pieces you shared with us! Beautiful!

It looks like a great time--love the various projects! I love that last stitching accessory, too, but it tends to put me to sleep. ;)
